The markets of Brantôme-en-Périgord


All year round, you will enjoy the various markets full of colors and flavors in the region and in Brantôme-en-Périgord. Meet every Friday morning in the center of Brantôme-en-Périgord for the weekly market. During school holidays (Easter, All Saints, July and August), discover the farmer's market on Tuesday morning. And finally, in December, January and February, taste the Black Gold of Périgord, on the truffle market of Brantôme-en-Périgord, on Friday morning. 

What to do in Brantome-en-Perigord?


The Hotel Aliénor is located in Brantôme-en-Périgord, just 100 m from the main bridge joining the town center. For the comfort of your stopovers, you will have as a garden, the Jardin aux Moines de Brantôme-en-Périgord, located 50 m from the hotel. It is by the Coudé Bridge that you will reach this haven of greenery and calm. Brantôme-en-Périgord is also known for its Benedictine abbey. This jewel of the religious heritage of Périgord will impress you with its size, its conservation and its Romanesque bell tower from the 11th century. Many legends surround this monument: it was founded by Charlemagne who would have deposited there the relics of one of the Holy Innocents. 

The caves


Brantôme-en-Périgord is known for its many myths, such as those surrounding the Grotto of the Last Judgment, located behind the abbey, between the troglodyte shelters. It is then that you will discover representations carved out of the rock, surrounded by many mysteries: what is their origin? Who is this man represented in the upper part of the work?

We also advise you to go to the Grotte de Villars, very close to Brantôme-en-Périgord. The visit to this cave, with the largest underground network in Périgord nearly 13 km, will make you discover superb geological formations.

Exceptional Châteaux


There are many castles around our 2-star hotel in Brantôme-en-Périgord. We advise you to discover the Château de Bourdeilles, classified as a Historic Monument and recognized as a Major Site in Aquitaine, it is the guardian of nearly 8 centuries of history. Continue your tour of the castles of the region with the Château de Puyguilhem, this former Renaissance residence was abandoned and looted, before being acquired and restored by the State in the 20th century. End your expedition with a visit to the Château de Mareuil, seat of one of the four baronies of Périgord, where you will discover vestiges and treasures from another era. Do not miss the Château de Richemont, built from 1564 to 1581 by Pierre de Bourdeille. Today, it is his descendants who will show you around this exceptional château (by appointment). 

The beautiful walks


Beautiful walks will be on the program for your days at the Hotel Aliénor. We will be able to advise you on itineraries according to your desires and your level. The GR36 passes through Brantôme-en-Périgord, you can make a comfortable stopover in our 2-star establishment. For a walk that changes, we advise you to go through Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont, to follow the Sentier des Meulières, you will discover or rediscover the history of bread through old millstone quarries. For cycling enthusiasts, the Flow Vélo also passes very close to our establishment.

Unmissable places


The Périgord is strewn with exceptional places, historical monuments and picturesque villages with a rich history. We particularly recommend that you make a detour to the Abbaye de Boschaud, less than 20 minutes' drive from the Hôtel Aliénor. This Cistercian abbey was founded in the 12th century and partly destroyed by various religious wars. During your visit to the Dordogne, do not miss the village of Saint-Jean-de-Côle, classified among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, this jewel of the Périgord Vert will charm you with its river, its medieval bridge, its houses with walls ochres, its place Saint-Jean and the Château de La Marthonie.

A busy year


The year in Périgord and Dordogne is punctuated by numerous votive celebrations and festivals. These events bring together locals and travelers for moments of conviviality. These events are literary meetings, flea markets, cinema sessions followed by debate, fireworks, theatrical performances, gastronomic events and many others.
